For centuries women have used cloth as a tool of comfort and as an expression of beauty within their homes. Creating cloth for warmth, cloth for shelter, our female predecessors embellished these linens with hand stitch using laborious and time consuming techniques thereby enhancing the functional beauty of objects which enveloped and protected their families. Inspired by these women I hope my creations pay tribute to and recognise the devotion expressed in cloth by our female ancestors .

three....

I have three pieces of paperwork on the go at the moment. Two smaller ones and a large one. The large one is going to have cloth added....at least that's the plan. I have tried several options, none of which has worked. Never to be beaten I have another plan...tonight if all goes well.

I am having so much fun with these. Remember my list? my notes? well there are other things calling but I can't seem to put these down. These are all based on lace patterns, trying to replicate the delicacy and pattern of lace on paper. Someone from South London......AND YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE...will try and imply that they are about the beach, limpets, shells..don't listen to a word. It's my work, my creation and it's lace I tell you!!! That by the way is my attempt at being assertive......

I have had the strangest of days so far.....parking my car at the supermarket next to a car with a baby and a toddler locked inside and not an adult in sight......?????? What do you do??? I took the registration number and went to Store Security who got on it straight away, phew!! and then you don't want to know about being told my shopping total came to around £40 too much...I queried, she argued...I was polite...the supervisor came...she charged me for FOURTY FOUR bottles of juice as opposed to the four I had....it pays to check your bills ladies!!!
It can only get better right?
and if you have shopping planned and need a tatty old scrap of paper for your list, don't forget to go here and leave a comment.

I LOVE this work on paper! There is something about the mix of textile/paper/thread...

What a day you have had!!! Good on your for reporting those children left in that car and for querying your bill. Tough day, but a lot of positives have come from it too.

Good for you for reporting the children locked in the car to security! Too many children and pets die this way. There is NEVER an excuse for locking a child in a car unattended. Wow. Those children will never know how lucky they are that you reported the situation.

Love your work as always! I, too, get onto a project and just can't tear myself away. Wonderful, isn't it! It just feels soooo good! :)))

Great big hugs from over here to over there. :))

the great thing about art is it is open to interpretation by the viewer. your intention might be lace but the viewer sees it with different eyes. i see maps. the most beautiful i've seen anywhere.

Haha, I'd have loved to see her face.
This stitching always reminds me of icing, but that's because my mum did lace icing for my wedding cake

I definiteley see lace Karen -infact the latest piece reminds me of heirloom sewing with insertion lace pieces.
After several children have died after being locked unattended in cars it is illegal in Australia to leave children and pets alone-locked in cars.
Well done you for reporting it.

Mr McGreggor's garden. Yes I know Embroidery, lace and the legacy of those who went before. All fuel for the tale emerging in my head!

Definitely lace, but is it okay to say that I see a little architecture thrown in too? The first picture especially makes me think of a beautiful wrought iron gate. I know - I'm weird!
