For centuries women have used cloth as a tool of comfort and as an expression of beauty within their homes. Creating cloth for warmth, cloth for shelter, our female predecessors embellished these linens with hand stitch using laborious and time consuming techniques thereby enhancing the functional beauty of objects which enveloped and protected their families. Inspired by these women I hope my creations pay tribute to and recognise the devotion expressed in cloth by our female ancestors .

buttons......

I don't normally mention world events on here....it is after all an embroidery blog and we each have our own reactions and emotions to these things, personal moments...... but yesterday...well events in Norway put my bad day into perspective. Consequently my description of my Friday is not a complaint or a moan, it is merely a description of things here.
I woke to no internet, I rang, they said they would fix it before lunch time. Lunch time came and went, not fixed. I rang a again...not fixable, they would send somebody....ON TUESDAY!!! Hence the phone call to my mum who very kindly posted my first message. I wouldn't have been eager to keep you so obsessively updated if I had known they would fix it by the evening. In my head I was to be without the internet for four days...........I had visions of you all thinking ''phew, thank goodness for that, she has disappeared, peace at last, no more nagging and babbling from a mad woman who embroiders!' I imagined that keeping you informed would give you plenty of time to plan the celebrations of my blogging demise.
Sorry but you are not that lucky! I am back...I made you buttons, I try and be nice honest I do.
Comments please.....names in the hat....drawn sometime next week, internet connection and me getting off my lazy behind permitting!!
Suztats.....you get the last one, the scrap of paper for your shopping list!!

How very, very pretty! Yes, please put my name in that hat.

Regarding Norway, we have been watching since seeing it first thing yesterday morning on Fox News here in the USA. We called Mom in Toensberg, Norway, within an hour of the bombing and before the shooting on the island began to hit the news. Our family is OK, but there are so many who aren't. Our prayers are with everyone in Norway. Sadly, Norway has just experienced a horrible combination of the Oklahoma City bombing and Jonestown-type events.

I was trying to explain to the boys the significance of things like that happening in Norway. Sad indictment about world affairs when one of them said he's been used to hearing about things like that all his life.
At least your buttons are cheerful

Button, button, who's got the button? I'd say, 'me! Me!' but that would be greedy since I just won the paper! Thank you!
So glad your internet is back and I shan't have wonderful&white withdrawal symptoms.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Norway.

so sad the events in Norway. and i also worry about all the people who do not have a/c with the extensive heat wave here in the US. wishing people all over the world a better day.
i'll pass on the buttons, since i already have some of your beautiful buttons. only fair that someone else get a chance at them.

Since I've been buried in my workroom for a couple of days now I wasn't even aware of the events in Norway. Horrendous events seem to occur regularly now, don't they.

And Karen, you know we would miss you terribly if indeed you disappeared from the internet.

And since I now have solved the problem of my inability to comment I shall throw my name in the hat for the button give-away.

Phew! Long comment!

Lovely to have you back blogging Karen.
Your buttons are wonderful, please add me to your draw.
The news this morning from Norway is terrible. My prayers are with them all.
Take care

I think it's so hard as a blogger to know what to say sometimes without sounding trite or dismissing some of the many happenings that do go on. Norway was shocking if only because it is not where you expect to hear that kind of news. Even so I am glad to see you got your internet back.

I know I would miss you if you disappeared... I hope you stay around for a long time. Your posts are very entertaining.
The buttons are very nice, may I say cute? Thank you for sharing

I have been an admirer on Flickr for awhile now and had to come over to see what you had going on... wow

and I read about Norway last night, when I stayed up too long and sometimes the internet is too much, too fast.... but then again it brings your handmade beauty to me too.

Crazy times

Cheers for the birthday wishes. I had a lovely day being entertained by my wee nephew & it stayed sunny - woo hoo!

As ever your buttons are beautiful. The yellow gingham is so fresh.

Fingers crossed there'll be no more Internet hiccups this week.

I am glad you got your internet back quicker than they said you would. I get lost when I can't get online - it's such a pain. Love your buttons and please throw my name into the hat.

There seems to always be some one else's day a bit worse than your own, only you can control how you think or react. People see it one way or another, you do beautiful work, you are very talented, i follow you every email, and yes I missed yours when they didnt come, however, internet is fickle, my blood pressure goes up when mine is messed up. Its my window to the world, and I am glad you are in my world.carol c/aka kingcooper0001@aol.com

What happened in Norway is another reason why I don't like watching the news reports. Maybe I'm wrong, but I'm much better off burying my head in the sand and trying to ignore the mayhem in the world. There is just so much that is so sad and upsetting.
