For centuries women have used cloth as a tool of comfort and as an expression of beauty within their homes. Creating cloth for warmth, cloth for shelter, our female predecessors embellished these linens with hand stitch using laborious and time consuming techniques thereby enhancing the functional beauty of objects which enveloped and protected their families. Inspired by these women I hope my creations pay tribute to and recognise the devotion expressed in cloth by our female ancestors .

paperwork four in progress....

Number four,  a number four that I am happy with. It definitely pays to sample, to work things out, to look at all your options. This one is a lot bigger than the others and I have different plans for it. I am beginning to wish that I had time to make a whole series of these...my brain is telling me that after my mini break I should get back to my other collection, my embroidered cloth collection but I am so tempted by this, by exploring it further.
Someone was enquiring about my buttons yesterday and why there weren't any in the shop. Well there is one pair in the shop but I hadn't realised that I had others languishing upstairs so later I hope to get them out, photograph them and list them along with a couple of brooches I think I may have too. Keep your eyes peeled for those sometime this afternoon. They may not be the colour or pattern you need...want...but don't forget....I do requests!

I really like the recent work on paper. I'd be interested to know how long this piece took to make.

Ohhhhh....you are a creative soul! At first, I thought you stitched little glass blue & white beads into your work, which was a new element in itself. But THEN, I clicked to see the enlarged version and realized ....it's actually thread! Perfectly executed!

HOW CAN THIS NOT BE ABOUT A BEACH? HOW HOW HOW?
I think your subconscious is telling you you need a break in a traditional sea side town. I'm off to work out the back story.

Hi Karen
I came to your blog via the Experimental Art e-course. Your work is SO beautiful and the sort of thing I aspire to. I shall follow your blog now I've found it.
