For centuries women have used cloth as a tool of comfort and as an expression of beauty within their homes. Creating cloth for warmth, cloth for shelter, our female predecessors embellished these linens with hand stitch using laborious and time consuming techniques thereby enhancing the functional beauty of objects which enveloped and protected their families. Inspired by these women I hope my creations pay tribute to and recognise the devotion expressed in cloth by our female ancestors .

paperwork 2

More fiddling with paper going on...another sketch, doodle, pencil adventure that has been lurking for some time in the same sketchbook. I am really enjoying my little diversion....paperwork one from yesterday now has a cloth companion. Trouble is I intended to finish number one today but there is a zipper drought and I now have to wait until monday to get supplies. Never to be beaten though I am going ahead with number two and got myself so excited that I had to share.
I am slowly getting to grips with my new camera too. It is a delight and takes the most amazing pictures. Well at least I think it does, not that I am an expert or anything but suffice to say the broken camera incident may have been a blessing in disguise. Having said that...it does seem to be a lot easier taking pictures of white paper as opposed to white cloth.

the holes in the paper remind me very much of my bobbin lace prickings. you start out with a card of dots which are the markings for the design being made. makes me think i ought to experiment with embroidery on the pricking designs.

Your paperwork is really cool. Totally different and still the same. Can't wait to see how you match it with cloth.

Enjoy your weekend with your needle.

Loving the paper and the constellations of tiny holes. Interesting to see you working in different mediums.

I LOVE your paperwork stitching!!
(what is that spider-like stitch called? is there a place, on the webb where I can find it explained? I kind of understand how it's done but .....)

So...Deanna sort of brought up what was on my mind. Are you manually pricking those designs? Are you sketching the design first or making it up as you go? People have accused me of not sleeping or eating because they think I get so much done, but I think YOU are the one not sleeping or eating! However do you find time to accomplish so much in so little time?

I am literally staring at the photos from the last two posts, mouth open, trying to form words, and I am rendered practically speechless, only able to make guttural sounds of awe. (And you are sweet, but truly your ability to create and produce new work, blows me away... I feel like a slow moving snail in comparison!)

Certainly our new camera does a much better job than the old one. Getting to grips with the technology may take a while, but if it makes life easier...!

Very pretty, once again. I know about those stopping points and needing some supply. I, too, will go out looking for a zipper today. I get one shopping day a week for about one hour off of the ship. ;) When we get home, I'll have 24 hour stores available if I want to use them. I always have more than one project going, too, so a stopping point on one project doesn't stop me on another.

Love your blog!

Sunday hugs,
Lois

I simply can't imagine the patience it must take to poke all those little holes in the paper. I know I'd be cross-eyed in minutes. Never mind, the end result is definitely worth it!
