For centuries women have used cloth as a tool of comfort and as an expression of beauty within their homes. Creating cloth for warmth, cloth for shelter, our female predecessors embellished these linens with hand stitch using laborious and time consuming techniques thereby enhancing the functional beauty of objects which enveloped and protected their families. Inspired by these women I hope my creations pay tribute to and recognise the devotion expressed in cloth by our female ancestors .

getting there.....

I say getting there, maybe a little misleading actually. If I were to write down the things I still need to do to bring all this new work together it would probably scare the pants off me. For now I am happy in my own little deluded world where I imagine I am getting there. The latest instalment is shown here, more embroidery and some printed paper cut into hexagons...don't ask me why, not sure myself yet. It seemed like a good idea at the time so that's good enough for me.

My 'article' was finished and mailed a few days ago and so far it appears to have a thumbs up. Such a relief I can tell you. That meant a huge proportion of yesterday was spent gathering images to go with it. I could not believe how many images I have stored on this computer. Take a look at yours, I bet there's zillions. I trawled through hundreds and once I had chosen I then had to resize and crop. That is done and mailed now too so keep your fingers crossed please. Whilst glued to technology, the computer, I decided to photograph a couple more pieces of artwork, they are now over on my sketchbook page if you would like to take a look. They are the first two images, at the top.
Today everything feels a little frantic. I need to sit down, coffee at my side and plan...and definitely write down, make a list. A list to lose, which is what usually happens!!
I must just say thanks first though, to Helena and Susan who have both sent me wonderful gifts this week. For no reason other than they are both lovely, lovely ladies. Thank you, I appreciate you kindness so much.

You don't need to say thanks. It was nothing.
Go on on this lovely project.

Those paper hexagons are almost too pretty to use as patchwork papers, if that is your intention!

Hi Karen, just love your hexies, they look so small and pretty, I can't wait to see what you have made.
I also thought that one of the puffy circles had a face on it, like an insect face... :) wishing you a happy day and week ahead.
Hugs.

Combining paper, fabric and stitch - should be interesting to see where the idea leads you.
