For centuries women have used cloth as a tool of comfort and as an expression of beauty within their homes. Creating cloth for warmth, cloth for shelter, our female predecessors embellished these linens with hand stitch using laborious and time consuming techniques thereby enhancing the functional beauty of objects which enveloped and protected their families. Inspired by these women I hope my creations pay tribute to and recognise the devotion expressed in cloth by our female ancestors .

''the use of traditional often time consuming process alludes to the devotion of a mother''. c K. A. Ruane 2007

quick update

Just a quick one today....as you are probably aware blogger was off air so to speak for quite a while this week, rendering my post about the feature in Uppercase magazine useless to say the least. The post disappeared for around 16 hours and returned last night minus the comments. I would be so happy for you to read it here if you missed it the first time. This was such a big event for me, I was so excited and really quite proud and feel a little bit sad and cheated that blogger ruined my ''big event''. I have also posted better images of the piece today and you should be able to read the whole article quite easily. Try clicking on the pictures too, see if that enlarges them. I will be back tomorrow with embroidery, have a lovely saturday.

well, i have a different take on blogger's fiasco. it seems to me that it gave your wonderful magazine article much more exposure since you have now posted it twice and the second post has allowed me to read the article by enlarging it where i could not do that with the first. so maybe it happened for a good reason.

Actually I got distracted before I could really say all I wanted to by small child demanding attention rather than being in bed as he should be. Just wanted to say how well written the article was and eloquent you were. I found what you wrote about the feminine tradition of embroidery and sewing in general and doing what you do to honour the memories of those who passed before us very moving. And very much in keeping with my own thoughts when working. Congratulations on such a beautiful and thought provoking article. x

Just found your page through another I follow, and your embroidery is stunning! I've just started embroidery myself and I'm loving it and looking forward to learning new stitches and techniques. Thanks for showing me what can be achieved, I'm very inspired! Well done on the article too!

Enlarging the pictures works brilliantly, thank you! They asked some quite challenging questions, and you answered them really well. Well done (again!) xx

That's a really good article - they've really given you chance to speak in your own voice rather than rewriting your ideas into a third person piece of journalistic writing. Bet you're pleased - well done!!
