For centuries women have used cloth as a tool of comfort and as an expression of beauty within their homes. Creating cloth for warmth, cloth for shelter, our female predecessors embellished these linens with hand stitch using laborious and time consuming techniques thereby enhancing the functional beauty of objects which enveloped and protected their families. Inspired by these women I hope my creations pay tribute to and recognise the devotion expressed in cloth by our female ancestors .

pure white....

Just three images for you today. I hope you won't mind when I explain that it's because there is a bit of a ''button fest'' going on. Yes, I have decided to give you some more buttons...not today, later in the week when I will pick the winner of last weeks.
The work here is number four. I started number four before number three is finished, The reason? my poor fingers. It is quite hard to get the needle through the pleated silk and the ground fabric and I had an unfortunate accident involving my thumb and the eye of the needle on friday so I'm giving it a rest for a few days. Instead I am working on ''gentle and soft'' pure white.
It has been very quiet here this weekend. I have mostly been alone but you will be pleased to hear that I have managed to keep out of mischief and have enjoyed the company of my work, it's been lovely.

Don't you just hate work related injuries? If I had £1 for every time I'd done that one or ripped my finger open on a forgotten pin, or stuck a needle under my fingernail while getting too over enthusiastic / tired when sewing.
The new piece does look very calm and restful (if such a word exists.)

It's always nice to have peace and quiet while stitching.
Looks like you have been very productive.
Have fun with your buttons.

Very pretty as all your work is so very pretty. :)

I have a connection in a US Port today with enough band width so I can log into your and other blogs. it's so good to be able to see what you are doing.

Hugs from Port Canaveral, Florida,

My nose is red raw, my throat feels like I've eaten broken glass, everything aches, even my toenails, and I can't breathe. But, on the plus side - I can catch up with my blog reading! Lovely work as always xx

Good to hear that you kept out of mischief but being alone on Motherday?!?! That doesn't sound too nice, still the new piece looks fantastic and your thumb will heal soon.

Have a lovely sunday evening.

Very lovely, as always. My favourite place for self-stabbing with the eye of the needle is second finger, right hand. Said finger currently so sore and swollen that I can't get a thimble on it. Not that I ever use a thimble (do you?)... now might be a good time to start though.

Hope your thumb is better. I've worn a thimble for about 30 years - although not constantly (like it sounds) and not on my Thumb of course! But still manage to bang myself up. (See my recent Plumbing Tutorial). Looking forward to 2 solid days to sew this week!! Love, Linda
