For centuries women have used cloth as a tool of comfort and as an expression of beauty within their homes. Creating cloth for warmth, cloth for shelter, our female predecessors embellished these linens with hand stitch using laborious and time consuming techniques thereby enhancing the functional beauty of objects which enveloped and protected their families. Inspired by these women I hope my creations pay tribute to and recognise the devotion expressed in cloth by our female ancestors .

timing.....

Timing is everything they say, well I am a little out on mine. I wasn't supposed to be here today and no it's not a return to daily rambling it's just that things have cropped up that will need seeing to tomorrow. I will also be here on saturday because I have another piece of white almost finished, this time with an edge and with blue and white transfers figuring in somewhere too. I will also be putting my mass production of the last ten days or so here on saturday...saturday will be busy, I will definitely be playing out!
Todays offering? another fragment, unfinished, frayable edges that perfectly fit the place they come from....
the pictures...well I did my best truly I did. I fiddled, tweaked, you name it I did it. They are still not as good as I hoped and all I can do is apologise....
I am getting closer to the point where I will start my new venture, I have lots of ideas, why am I nervous? You probably won't notice a difference in the work, it will be essentially more of the same yet for some reason it is scary...I hope I am doing the right thing. Only time will tell....

Like bits of magical cloud fragments. Exquisite.

Best wishes on your new venture!

I somehow think you are going to need a light box (or whatever the technical term is for a box you can alter the lighting in for taking photos), for the sake of your sanity Karen. That way you can photograph your white pieces even when the sun is not out.

Nice work by the way

I think all new beginnings are scary....but we mustn't listen to the fear. Jump in and you'll be swimming.

Karen, I love these fragments. Perhaps if you photograph them on a coloured background they would work better. Just a thought.

I love looking at your pieces. They always take me off on some imagining journey, as evidenced yesterday. This one looks like a secret fairy map. If you could shrink yourself down small enough, some amazing things could happen in there. May need snow goggles though.

Your fragment is beautiful! Starting something new is always scarey. Trust your gut instinct. :) Blessings, Johoanna

We all have a fear of the unknown I think, so I understand how you feel about your new venture. We all have confidence in you and know that whatever it is, it's bound to be a huge success. Remember, I'm still hoping for that nice big glossy book that I know is in you!!
