For centuries women have used cloth as a tool of comfort and as an expression of beauty within their homes. Creating cloth for warmth, cloth for shelter, our female predecessors embellished these linens with hand stitch using laborious and time consuming techniques thereby enhancing the functional beauty of objects which enveloped and protected their families. Inspired by these women I hope my creations pay tribute to and recognise the devotion expressed in cloth by our female ancestors .

white cloth, white thread, white stitch...

Ah, embroidery...yes it's back to where it should be on here now with stitch and cloth. No more abandoning you for the shops. Thing is I really dislike shopping for clothes so when I actually want to go out and get something in particular it draws gasps from those around me, medication is even considered for shock!! So imagine my irritation when I got there yesterday and there were NO skirts there....I did get the wrinkle cream though so at least I will have a delightful complexion in the midst of skirt nakedness. Never fear though, I have a plan, a little trip in the car next week to a superstore no less where chances are they will have the skirt of my dreams. Back to the stitching and this is how far I have got with the white from the other day.
This has now been put to one side and toe wrap two is back out. I made embellishments for a seam on there last night and sunshine permitting for photos you will get to peruse that in the morning. The hooks and eyes are all applied to the other piece too. Now I have to put all the pieces together, get on the machine and finish them off.........they need lining too. I am still procrastinating on those, don't know what it is...yes I do...I am terified that I won't like them when they are finished. Note to self...don't be such a wuss and get on with it.

So I am not the only one who hates shopping. Mind you had a wonderful conversation today with a lady who wants to set up a sewing company in the area - maybe a chance to get someone to make something for me. Much more satisfying than shopping. Hope your next venture out is more successful

I think there are more of us who hate shopping than the world usually acknowledges!

As ever - very impressed that you manage to get such great shots when the weather is so overcast..

Some very intriguing embroidery there. I see some threads drawn out, couldn't quite make out if the crochet edging was crocheted on or stitched on but I like the long stitches holding it on. Nice.

I hate shopping for clothes and necessities but I LOVE shopping for thread and fabric and buttons and notions. I can waste hours doing that provided I have a seat to recharge in now and then. :-)

What a shame about the skirt. Just had a peek and it is lovely.
I'm loving the work that you did with the machine the other day as well as the white on white.
Have a great weekend.
