For centuries women have used cloth as a tool of comfort and as an expression of beauty within their homes. Creating cloth for warmth, cloth for shelter, our female predecessors embellished these linens with hand stitch using laborious and time consuming techniques thereby enhancing the functional beauty of objects which enveloped and protected their families. Inspired by these women I hope my creations pay tribute to and recognise the devotion expressed in cloth by our female ancestors .

collecting...

I gathered all these little pieces together last night, a counting excercise. Including the hexagon pieces that I showed you yesterday I had twenty three.....I now have twenty seven. Last night I made four more, not shown here and tonight I will make the other three. Then I will have reached the magical thirty. Just to remind you, these are for little embroidery sketchbooks. I had been asked for some recently so I've got those covered and a couple spare to go in the shop. Not yet though, there's still a lot of paper cutting to do.
Yesterday I parceled up the wedding favours and embroidered wedding cloth to send them off to their new home. I get so anxious about that . Putting anything precious in the hands of others to travel miles is a very worrying thing, or maybe that's just me. I feel like I'm sending my kids off on their own for the first time, not much sleep going on for the first night they are away. Then there is the worry of ''will they like it'' and I probably worry more about that then anything. So you can imagine how relieved I was this morning when I had an e-mail to say firstly that they had arrived already!!! That's a first and secondly that the lovely Adele is delighted with them all, more than happy infact. Phew!!!
Now I have to say that I am teetering, yes, positively teetering on the brink of insanity.....the digging outside the front door has resumed...they are driving me mad. Apart from the fact that my other half is in bed after a night shift the constant drilling and banging is really beginning to grate on my every fibre. Have you ever seen the film ''Falling Down'' with Michael Douglas? Basically he completely loses it in a similar situation...well I am fast becoming him.....watch this space...
I live on a ''one way'' street for traffic. I came home from my clothes hunting expedition this morning, (I got something too by the way, relief) and they had CLOSED THE ENTRANCE TO MY STREET. No warning, no diversion...so I had to drive all the way round to the other end and drive up the street the wrong way. I then parked up, came in and put the kettle on and had a thought...what if a policeman sees my car parked the wrong way on a one way street???? so off I went again and turned it round so it is now facing the right way. Sorry about the rant but I do feel better for it...thankyou.

I'm glad your precious parcel arrived safely at its destination. :)

I do understand the frustrations of noise and interruptions!

Hi, it has been a while since I have visited and your
stitching is as lovely as ever!
Sorry about all the noise. My children do not understand why I want the radio off when I am driving.
It is the only time I can find a little quiet. lol!
I am wishing you more peaceful days : )

OH MY GOODNESS!!! I just discovered your gorgeous blog. I am in awe of your work. I have pulled out all my embroidery floss and want to sit down immediately and try some stitches. Unfortunately, the arthritis in my hands makes sewing difficult, but I want to try some simple things. Your little treasure books are so sweet. Do you ever send them to the US? How would I pay?
I have a blog, www.thymetospare.blogspot.com, if you care to visit.
Thank you for your inspiration and sharing your beautiful work. mary k

Always something lovely here to look at, drool over, and pique my interest. Are you going to rest now that the favours have been received? Or do you have 20 more bits lined up to create? Hugs

Ahhhh...I awoke to a jackhammer this morning so I understand where you're coming from with the insanity comment! I've had computer troubles for a while and now have so much to catch up on on your beautiful blog! Those embroidered books will be gorgeous!

These are gorgeous, so vintage looking, I hope that was the look you were going for, i love them anyway. You made me laugh about the workmen, there is only you that would think this through and move your car. Art class is next tuesday if you want to come let me know I can pick you up if hubby is working, just read that your phone is on the blink

You're certainly having some trying times at the moment - but it doesn't show in your embroidery!
