For centuries women have used cloth as a tool of comfort and as an expression of beauty within their homes. Creating cloth for warmth, cloth for shelter, our female predecessors embellished these linens with hand stitch using laborious and time consuming techniques thereby enhancing the functional beauty of objects which enveloped and protected their families. Inspired by these women I hope my creations pay tribute to and recognise the devotion expressed in cloth by our female ancestors .

thirty gingham hexagons and white silk....

I struggled so hard today to get these pictures. It is darker than dark here, raining as if it has never rained before, sky so black and heavy that I keep thinking it's bedtime...I hope they are o.k. I did my best really I did. More hexagons were made yesterday and joined to the others giving me a gorgeous little piece of patchworked gingham ready to add to my throw. The white piece, the silk and lace piece, I discovered by accident. It was started before christmas with a specific end in mind and I remember well the crisis of confidence that led to me folding it up and putting it aside. Last night I damp stretched it and today I have considered finishing it, but not yet, too much other stuff to do.
Aside from rambling incoherently on here every day, I take myself off for a wander around the web sometimes and occasionaly I find something that makes me go wow!! Would you like to see too?  I feel the need to share so have a look here, here and here.

What a surprise. When I saw you added some links I thought. First I make a cup of tea and than I look at the links. With my cupper I ended up at my own blog. Glad you like my new romantic project.

Have a great weekend. Now I'm off again to see the sketchbooks of the two other ladies.

I can see the hexagons making a lovely edging along the top or bottom, and the lace and silk is beautiful
I didn't expect to see the hooks and eyes in the middle "here". A very interesting piece

I have no idea how you make all those hexagons fit together, you are a master.

The white silk has my heart, those windows to lace.... enchanting.

I woke up this morning thinking of your little embroidered windows but I did them in green and had little tatted rosettes peeking out. I guess I'm going to have to try that out!
