For centuries women have used cloth as a tool of comfort and as an expression of beauty within their homes. Creating cloth for warmth, cloth for shelter, our female predecessors embellished these linens with hand stitch using laborious and time consuming techniques thereby enhancing the functional beauty of objects which enveloped and protected their families. Inspired by these women I hope my creations pay tribute to and recognise the devotion expressed in cloth by our female ancestors .

''the use of traditional often time consuming process alludes to the devotion of a mother''. c K. A. Ruane 2007

ballpoint pen....

Yes!! more drawing. Only a little bit and this time in ballpoint pen. I did this in honour of my new page. Are you impressed? I managed to figure out how to add a seperate, stand alone page for my sketchbook and design work. May not be rocket science to you but believe me...it may as well have been for moi!!You will find the link at the top of this page so go ahead, have a look. There's new stuff on there and some older work. I have so much more on flickr too so you will find a link over there to my flickr sketchbook folder.

The little books I have used here are from The Victoria and Albert Museum colour collection. The image plates are quite small but just big enough to make out most of the little details. Right, I've got a headache now...so i'm off to relax with a little piece of cloth.

Know the exact feeling getting something done yourself, knowing it isn't rocketscience but oh man it feels so good to have worked it out yourself.

Didn't understand the sentence about the link because I can't find a link. Rocketscience that I can't find out about.

Oh I'm so glad I'm not the only one posting pics from a sketchbook. Although...your's looks like artwork...where mine is scribbling. I tell people it can take me hours and hours to get a drawing from the first scratchings to the finished product.
Thanks for the inspiration!
