For centuries women have used cloth as a tool of comfort and as an expression of beauty within their homes. Creating cloth for warmth, cloth for shelter, our female predecessors embellished these linens with hand stitch using laborious and time consuming techniques thereby enhancing the functional beauty of objects which enveloped and protected their families. Inspired by these women I hope my creations pay tribute to and recognise the devotion expressed in cloth by our female ancestors .

shadows...

the sun is blindingly bright here today casting wierd shadows on my images. I quite like it actually and as someone who is always complaining about the lack of light for good photographs I am going to take what I can get in this department. I will complain slightly though as I had intended to clean my windows today but we all know that's impossible in bright light so sadly, (and if you believe I am sad about it you will believe anything) they will have to wait. So I am forced because of good weather to keep sewing, isn't life hard. Here is the white piece I put together yesterday to accompany my hexagons and many other pieces yet to be made for my own personal throw. I hope you like french knots, french knots created with the most lovely twisted silk thread. Unfortunately though you can't have this one but you can still have one of these.

So far this piece is minimally embellished, A couple of edges of buttonhole lace, a little area of cross stitch petals, a row of that raised stitch that I don't have a name for and french knots. Alongside this we have favours being made and today I plan more hexagons, if I work extra, extra hard I may even get all the hexagons joined together. I think it's going to be a late one, good job there's a good film on channel four!!
