For centuries women have used cloth as a tool of comfort and as an expression of beauty within their homes. Creating cloth for warmth, cloth for shelter, our female predecessors embellished these linens with hand stitch using laborious and time consuming techniques thereby enhancing the functional beauty of objects which enveloped and protected their families. Inspired by these women I hope my creations pay tribute to and recognise the devotion expressed in cloth by our female ancestors .

Oh, Karen, I had no idea this was going on (at the cabin). Hope its working out OK. Try, somehow, to turn a negative into a positive...ie you now know how to mark your photos.

That's good news.
Love the photo, really enjoy seeing the writing again

Wowsers. Van Gogh was not a success in his lifetime. Like you, he was compelled to work. Sometimes the work must be the reward and the reason to go on. Take heart.

Have you thought about more gallery type showings? Arts funding from private foundations?

Its a real problem isn't it? bUt at least you had people visiting you rblog from there so maybe that was her way of crediting your work? I had loads and loads fo Russian blogs full of my pictures and I ony knew through statcounter. I too solace in the fact that they must have been linked to me or they wouldn't have shown up. Then I had Russians discussing how I did my work on a forum. I translate dit and left them y own view of the subject , but I have no real objections as they weren't pretending it was their work.
Now I want to know how to put a name on my photographs.

Just catching up with my blog reading, and I am so sorry to see all that you have been going through, Karen.

Congratulations on getting the photos taken down. The internet is a bitter sweet deal... On the one hand it has given us great power to promote and sell our own work, where just a few years ago we all were at the mercy of galleries with high percentage takes, and/or labor intensive art and craft shows. However, it also opens us up to having our work ripped off, and this is truly unfortunate.

As for the work, skill and time involved in creating your pieces, compared to the price charged, and the resulting hourly wage... I hear you loud and clear. I get so discouraged sometimes, knowing how many hours/days I put into a piece and how little money I am actually earning from it. It makes me feel exhausted, and I too wonder what am I doing all of this for?

Despite all of that, I strongly encourage you to forge ahead. Your work is very important, as is your voice. As I tell my kids, (always with a smile on my face) "Don't let the bastards get you". (It's not very poetic but gets the point across.) In time, I believe the work we do will become more known, more collected and more valued/valuable... the prices we charge will go up, and our compensation will too. In the meantime, take comfort in knowing that everyday you add beauty to this world by doing what you do, and the absence of you and your work, would leave a huge void that could never be filled. xo Vic

Glad that you decided to keep posting and that the slide show is removed. The story you told is an important one because it gives your readers an inside on things, knowledge they otherwise might not have had.

Have a great weekend and say Hej to Bruce for me.

xoxo Elizabeth (smile)

Big sigh of relief. Wonderful news.
Now, for more of the creative stuff - sewing with a lighter frame of mind.

I have just read your previous post and can only agree with what you say- your work is worth every single penny of what you ask and much much more. It's integrity is priceless, it is madness that people value paper and paint so highly over fabric and stitch and will pay for 'a nice print' over something totally unique. Madness, I am glad that the photos are down now and congratulate you on your tenacity. xxxxxx

I'm sorry to see you have been having problems. Copying is the best form of flattery, but stealing work is stealing.

just read down and so sorry to hear about the problem you had with your images. Don't understnd these people. Were they passing it off as their work? How can they? How did you find out? A terrible business, so much upset for you and hard work too going allthrough your stuff. Your work is gorgeous :o)
