For centuries women have used cloth as a tool of comfort and as an expression of beauty within their homes. Creating cloth for warmth, cloth for shelter, our female predecessors embellished these linens with hand stitch using laborious and time consuming techniques thereby enhancing the functional beauty of objects which enveloped and protected their families. Inspired by these women I hope my creations pay tribute to and recognise the devotion expressed in cloth by our female ancestors .

making...

I am still euphoric about my curtains so you will have to bear with me. See, I'm easy pleased, new curtains and who needs a cruise or a round the world trip...unless you can take them with you. Now there's a thought! In between gazing at my curtains I have been making and here's the proof. This first little pink thing was made at the begining of the weekend. It's a tiny sample and would be perfect placed in one of my little books of embroidery or, as I said before, who could want a prettier floor cloth! The wonderful Debi came to my rescue on friday. Remember friday? I was in a mood, moaning and complaining. Yep, sorry about that but anyway Debi appeared from nowhere, well America actually and asked me to make her something, well three somethings and here is the first one. It appears really fragile in these pictures, almost paper like and I love the way the light comes through. If you look closely in a couple of the pictures you can even see the back of my work. I never thought I would see the day when I didn't care about showing the back of my embroidery.
A couple of you have asked for more pics of my newly titvated room. Doesn't it look immaculate in the two photos from yesterday? All I can say is that for the moment I am happy for you to think my whole existence and environment are immaculate. Who am I to burst your bubble, believe me that area is THE tidiest and neatest part of my whole house... trust me. Now I have the second piece for Debi to finish and get ready for my next post, no time for tidying or titivating embroidery is king in this house. x

I find that when I surround myself with beautiful things, and do the work I love to do, then I am happy with my self and my place.
I love the touch of pastels in your something new. I don't know just what it is about your wonderful embroideries that call to me, but it is a step into serenity and beauty. Thank you.
