For centuries women have used cloth as a tool of comfort and as an expression of beauty within their homes. Creating cloth for warmth, cloth for shelter, our female predecessors embellished these linens with hand stitch using laborious and time consuming techniques thereby enhancing the functional beauty of objects which enveloped and protected their families. Inspired by these women I hope my creations pay tribute to and recognise the devotion expressed in cloth by our female ancestors .

hexagons

I have had a hankering for hexagons for a while now in fact I quite fancy ''hexagoning'' indefinitely, no end, no result in mind. Not practical me thinks....add some to the crazy piece instead. It kind of satisfied the urge, for a while anyway. First off though, thanks so much for all the comments on the last post, I am slowly getting back to all of you individually and will work my way through you all before the weekend is out, promise. Meanwhile if you are not yet in the give away go here and leave a comment, simple! and if you want to see what I won in the PIF take a look here, it's lovely!! Things seem to be slowly getting back to some kind of normailty here and hey, I finished 2 pieces so I call that progress. I got a bit carried away with this first one, it is quite a bit bigger than the others I have made and it's led to the development of a new obsession, yes another one, Karen Ruane, therapists dream!!
and this is it, this edge. I absolutely love doing this and love even more the way it looks. I fear you may be seeing a lot of this in the future.

Then there is the blue ''funny shape'' one. Hexagons again and a departure from the norm here, text on aida, a quote from my research, yes, MY RESEARCH. It seems like such a long time ago now.

Both of these have been listed this morning, early this morning, no shirking going on here! At the moment chez moi we are back on white, white silk and I am sure hexagons will be involved and probably rouleau loops and maybe even a bit of smocking. You will have to come back and see how that one turns out, meanwhile if you see the postman can you please ask him where my bag frames are?

There must be something about hexagons, I've been thinking of doing some. I've come across the template my brother made for my mum many years ago. Love that edging.
I saw the PIF that Angela made, glad it went to you x

Me too! Thinking of hexagons, I mean. Last summer I found a huge box of vintage yoyo circles. It dawned on me that making hexes out of them would lose minimal fabric. Now, just where did I put them?

I so love your work and admire your skill.Today I was putting the lining in a bag I had spend days stitching and suddenly realized I had blood all over the lining where I had pricked myself - I thought of your and what an even great disaster it would be if it happened to your work!!

Beautiful work as always, Karen. The 'new' edging is gorgeous! And the PIF you won is beautiful too. I just asked the postman pounding the streets of Isle of Wight where your bag frames are. He looked a little non-plussed...
