For centuries women have used cloth as a tool of comfort and as an expression of beauty within their homes. Creating cloth for warmth, cloth for shelter, our female predecessors embellished these linens with hand stitch using laborious and time consuming techniques thereby enhancing the functional beauty of objects which enveloped and protected their families. Inspired by these women I hope my creations pay tribute to and recognise the devotion expressed in cloth by our female ancestors .

embroidery

Looking at this work it seems I have had a ''pretty'' week. Well a pretty couple of days anyway. I still have toffee left, very restrained, but I have just uncovered a box of chocolates that I got for my birthday and had forgotten about! Must muster some more self control, chocolate and white silk doesn't mix! These pieces are the making of purses. I ordered five purse frames, I have three pieces so I need to make another two and then when my frames arrive get them all put together. I hope that will happen over the weekend but life seems to be getting in the way at the moment. An obstacle at every turn. Nothing unusual just normal stuff but at times it frustrates me hugely!

In an ideal world my weekend would procede as follows,
no cooking
no cleaning
no shopping
no kitchen full stop.
embroider two more purses
purse frames arrive
put purses together
make books
embellish a book in a non permanent way for mini tutorial
embellish a book fully, properly, work out a price for it and test the water as per comment received following my last post
will it happen? Don't know but I hope so. You will have to come back and see!

just love the half-moon circles with the white lace. the colors are beautiful as well, but there's something about all white that is so elegant.
my weekend will be spent shopping for a new washer and dryer.
hope all your weekend wishes come true.

If it does, let me know how you managed not to cook or clean all weekend(says she whose son cooked dinner today). The fabric for the purses are beautiful, I hope the bits arrive so you can put them together

Wouldn't it be marvellous to wave your hand airily and say 'Cook will see to it' instead of having to plan, shop for, cook and wash up after every meal?

On a slightly more realistic level, the lace and silk are perfect together.

Amelia at 101 BirdTales asked if I had seen your work and I have to say I am lost for words - stunned - I could look all day - I am continually amazed at people's (woman's) skills and their creativity. I just had no idea that embroidery could be so exquisite - thanks.
