For centuries women have used cloth as a tool of comfort and as an expression of beauty within their homes. Creating cloth for warmth, cloth for shelter, our female predecessors embellished these linens with hand stitch using laborious and time consuming techniques thereby enhancing the functional beauty of objects which enveloped and protected their families. Inspired by these women I hope my creations pay tribute to and recognise the devotion expressed in cloth by our female ancestors .

colour

Did you believe me when I said I had a new addiction? Well here's the proof, contents for 2 new little books, this time little books of colour. I am thinking maybe window mount the little embroideries. Hours of cutting and mounting but maybe a great result, we shall see. You know me, everything has to be as complicated as is possible. If there's an easy way to do anything I avoid it! I was aiming to have these finished and listed today, not a chance. I had a custom purse to make that didn't quite meet colour requirements first time round so I started again. Nothing lost though, the first one was listed in the shop this morning. I will probably show you pictures of both of them next time.
There are ten little pieces of unique embroidery here, two colour matched wrapped thread cards and two cards wrapped with various trims and colourful pins. I have more graph paper in bright colours for extra leaves and I am probably going to try and print some images of my work to make extra pages.

So what do you think? Good enough? Will they sell? Most of me doesn't mind if they don't sell, maybe I deserve to keep one for myself, who knows I may even pluck up the courage to draw in it!! The little corner of my little house where I keep all my finished things minds if they don't sell though! It's positively groaning.
I have to decide now what to do next, another book? Another bigger piece of embroidery? Decisions, decisions...... First of all though, I must put these together and then get back here sharpish to show you.

That looks like it was a lot of fun to work on - and I'm guessing quite relaxing? Beautiful work, as always.
I think they will definitely sell.

I can't wait, there is something about those wrapped cards with the pins. I think it's because it puts me in mind of new beginnings, new projects

Karen, your work is beautiful - as usual. I always loved your white work, but these coloured books are positively gorgeous! Pink/purple and green is my favourite colour combination.
I also love the textured fabric you work on - is it silk?

I love your work with colour. It's as fresh and crisp as your whitework! How do you see and create like that! Does your mind work so crisply and cleanly too, I wonder?(That's a question from my oft muddked brain) It's beautiful.

Hi Karen, I adore your little books -the coloured and the white. And I think it's a great idea to have some pages that are printed alongside the actual embroidery pages - will help to keep the cost down but will still be special because it includes original alongside the images.

Delightful, Karen. It is good to see that you are as skilled in the use of colour as you are in the use of texture! Great work!
