I created the large, central flower first, it's form inspired by the flowers on the vintage cloth I am using. Then I came a little unstuck because I really wanted to add to it but the piece of cloth I had cut was too small. So not one for letting anything beat me I added more cloth, joined the two pieces with buttonhole stitch, you can see that in these pictures.
Now I've finished the second part I feel the need to add something else so it will be back to adding another piece of cotton.

Feel like I am repeating myself over and over again but each time I am amazed by the overpowering beauty and at the same time simple forms.
If you ask me, forget about the watercolor. Just do what you do best and love most, embroider.

The unintentional seam looks like you planned it all along and really adds to the (very beautiful as always) stitching. I really like those embroidered flowers peeping through the holes.
I love the spring like quality of this and like the 'add it on' as needed idea! I have bought a book by Sandra Meech about connecting art to stitch which has some drawing exercises in it. I am planning to do some still lifes with lots of pattern as this is what I always enjoyed most- but the thought is a bit scarey! xx
Your work seems to spring into life when you just let it flow, no plan, no deadline, just pure creation. Mind you, don't give up on the collages-they are great ends in themselves too.
this piece is sweet and adorable. I love the seam you made and your flowers sprinkled about. Full of spring spirit. It makes sense to me that you want to relax and go slow after all the efforts you have put out recently. Take care.

This new piece is looking wonderful. I love the addition of those little spring flowers you have sprinkled along the edge. Very much a spring feel to this piece.

absolutely gorgeous... Are we falling victim to ranking 'art' that is on paper/canvas, done with paint, higher than art done with cloth/thread? I wonder. Maybe you need the fabric to inspire you, and clearly, wonderfully, it does!
Hi Dee. In answer to the question.... absolutley not. Painting and drawing are just little personal demons I want to overcome.
ah, well that is a different ball of wax, altogether, then, isn't it? I wonder if there is a way to translate what you do with a blank piece of linen, to a blank piece of canvas? I'm restating your frustration, of course, but let me think aloud for a moment -- is there some analytical 'trick' that would span the media? I don't know. and I look forward to watching how it all goes.
