For centuries women have used cloth as a tool of comfort and as an expression of beauty within their homes. Creating cloth for warmth, cloth for shelter, our female predecessors embellished these linens with hand stitch using laborious and time consuming techniques thereby enhancing the functional beauty of objects which enveloped and protected their families. Inspired by these women I hope my creations pay tribute to and recognise the devotion expressed in cloth by our female ancestors .

progress

It's been a wierd day today, lots of plans but very little achieved. I had to have an eye examination which meant drops in the eye and consequently I have been looking through a dark fog all day, still am so these pictures are taken and posted with fingers crossed tightly! I intend to proof read this post too because you can bet there will be lots of mistakes! This may not look very different to you compared to last time but I can testify that there has been a lot of applique added to this piece. I damp stretched it last night, now I have to add around six more of these circles, a little extra embellishment and it will then be ready for the next stage. The back of this is going to be plain but I hope the edge will wow you and I have big plans for a pocket but I don't want to say too much at the moment.

Then there are these. I made these ages ago and listed them in the shop ages ago. For some reason they have dropped out of the shop. So I took the opportunity to re photograph them and they are now in the shop once more along with two bags I had forgotten about too.

You will all be delighted to hear that the nice man came and fixed my washing machine. I now speak to you wearing sparkling clean clothes but I really must go and put my ''eye'' up...in the same context as I would put my feet up! Have a lovely weekend. x

Hope the eye is better soon.
The applique on these pieces is lovely. Is it applique (stitched on the surface)or reverse applique (stitched behind the surface)?

Relieved to hear that the repairman did his job properly, LOL.

Be careful with your eyes.

Have a lovely weekend and I'll see you soon.
