For centuries women have used cloth as a tool of comfort and as an expression of beauty within their homes. Creating cloth for warmth, cloth for shelter, our female predecessors embellished these linens with hand stitch using laborious and time consuming techniques thereby enhancing the functional beauty of objects which enveloped and protected their families. Inspired by these women I hope my creations pay tribute to and recognise the devotion expressed in cloth by our female ancestors .

pink finished and more white

My pink experiment is finished and I give you a funky pin cushion, yes? no? I think it's funky, it's oversized for a pincushion at 6 inches square and I love it. The puffs which are mainly white are cross stitch hearts, not quite so obvious in the picture you will have to trust me on that one. These will be more expensive than the smaller ones I usually make, bigger, more embellishment, ''different''. I hope to make more before march so fingers crossed.

There is a lot of ''work in progress'' going on around here at the moment. This piece is very much one of those. 10 inches long up to now, I hope to get it to around 25 inches in length before I finish it. It's enormously time consuming yet very relaxing. I damp stretched it yesterday to show you today even though it's not finished. On the edge you can see my tacking line and the holes from the stretching pins. I will continue to work on it now and do a final damp stretch when it's finished. I think that will be the pattern for a while, showing you works in progress. At the moment I have another two pieces ongoing, two more time consuming things that will need to be damp stretched in stages too. On one piece I am re visiting my iron on transfers, more white on white but with a little blue added.

White is also the theme of the second piece, I love to do it but just as importantly you seem to like it too. The white piece I showed you last time will be coming with me in march but if it doesn't sell it is already reserved and I am delighted I have had so many compliments about that particular piece. Why was I scared of bound edges? I think you will be seeing a lot of them from now on!

It's almost as if these pieces "grow".

There is no way on this earth I would dare to stick a pin in that beautiful cushion! I wouldn't want to mar it because it's just simply too pretty and absolutely needs to be on display.

It is indeed funky and the second piece is simply scrumptious. From your crocheting friend.

You are absolutely amazing. White on white with all those tiny French Knots! Needs to be on a Bride's Dress or a Christening Gown...something someone would cherish forever.

...just found your blog and your work is insanely gorgeous!! I can't even imagine the time you spend on each of your creations,
but it sounds like you have a lot of 'work-related angst' to work off with your art, so I completely 'get' it! Grin.

That pin cushion is absolutley funky and gorgeous. I just read one of your other comments about your white pieces seeming to grow. I like that because as I was looking at them they seemed like a birds eye view of a country or map. I was thinking about boarders and countries and shifting boundaries. I love that for a moment your embroidered pieces became whole countries for me.
