For centuries women have used cloth as a tool of comfort and as an expression of beauty within their homes. Creating cloth for warmth, cloth for shelter, our female predecessors embellished these linens with hand stitch using laborious and time consuming techniques thereby enhancing the functional beauty of objects which enveloped and protected their families. Inspired by these women I hope my creations pay tribute to and recognise the devotion expressed in cloth by our female ancestors .

that's more like it!

back so soon.......well yes. I am invigorated, it's amazing what 30 minutes drawing can do to you. Before I started drawing though I made a little progress with this. This is yesterdays piece transformed. I am much happier with it now. My little embroidered pieces have been added to some patchwork hexagons, it will finish much, much longer than it is here, I'm thinking swaddling band length. I'm thinking patched up worn out swaddling band repaired with heavy embroidery. What do you think??

back to the drawing....whilst I was practicing my Picasso moves I was also thinking, thinking about these and how obsessed I have become with them. I realised that they should inform what comes next and I need to stop taking the easy route and just keep repeating myself, churning them out because it takes minimal brain power, it's easy to replicate and reproduce. So I am having a clear out, they distract me, they don't push me forward in a positive way, they are now in the shop. Don't get me wrong I still love them, adore them infact but they need to stop being the end result, they need to be a tool that informs what comes next. So tonight I have plans, I am going to start a brand new piece which will be inspired by my drawing, (yikes, I said ''my drawing!!) and which will hopefully be amazing as a result of all the past pieces which have led to the techniques used.
I am so excited!!

Knew you would find the answer sooner or later. Glad it was sooner. They look good with the hexagons.
