For centuries women have used cloth as a tool of comfort and as an expression of beauty within their homes. Creating cloth for warmth, cloth for shelter, our female predecessors embellished these linens with hand stitch using laborious and time consuming techniques thereby enhancing the functional beauty of objects which enveloped and protected their families. Inspired by these women I hope my creations pay tribute to and recognise the devotion expressed in cloth by our female ancestors .

progress

Remember I said I'd had a kind of revelation about my multi coloured piece? Well here is the next part of the puzzle. Little flowers, same printed fabric behind the cutwork circles, cross stitch stems and multi coloured french knots. I have an idea of how this will all take shape, what form it will be but I need to play around with it a little bit first. I also think I may have to make the first piece a little bigger but we'll see. Going back to the cross stitch stems, I have re discovered the joys of cross stitch, so simple yet really versatile and very effective. Well I think so anyway.

this is how all the pieces look together, first with just the text and then with the multi coloured piece too. If this all goes according to plan I will be so happy and I am going to try and put all the pieces together this weekend.

In the meantime I have been doing even more cross stitch, could be my new obsession who knows. I am creating a small, relatively cheap item that I hope may sell well at the fair, it's not massively different just a variation of something I already make and I hope that's not too mysterious because I don't want you to be underwhelmed when I show you.
My last post about my pleating machine caused quite a stir, so many questions, so many of you had never seen or heard of a pleating machine so I have this link for you and it should all become clear! And.........if anyone buys one and can figure out a quick way of threading the zillions of needles, please share! Have an amazing weekend.
