For centuries women have used cloth as a tool of comfort and as an expression of beauty within their homes. Creating cloth for warmth, cloth for shelter, our female predecessors embellished these linens with hand stitch using laborious and time consuming techniques thereby enhancing the functional beauty of objects which enveloped and protected their families. Inspired by these women I hope my creations pay tribute to and recognise the devotion expressed in cloth by our female ancestors .

commission

My latest commission is now finished. I won't be posting this off until after christmas though, some things enter the mail system at this time of year and are never seen again! I think they end up in that big black hole where all those single socks go and how traumatic would that be my work in a black hole, no thanks. However, thanks to the wonders of the internet my customer can see this here, (she's already had a little peek on facebook and is happy thank goodness) and be safe in the knowledge that this will have a wonderful christmas at my house before heading of to it's new home. Ah christmas, wonderful, love it, love the white stuff, very seasonal, don't like having to abandon my car in it though and go back the next day to dig it out. To be fair two strapping men did the digging and I supervised but I felt their pain, really I did. There doesn't seem to be any let up either. Today I did my big supermarket shop for christmas and now have muscles like a wrestler from pushing my trolley through several inches of snow on the car park, at least hanging onto the trolley stopped me skidding flat on my face, bonus

Back to embroidery, these little scraps of embellishment are soooooooo popular, I've sold loads of them and I adore making them. I am still happy to take orders but now the down side.....because of my exhibiting commitments in the New Year I shan't be able to make them immediately. I will however be more than delighted to accept requests and there is still one single solitary piece available here (wednesday....this is now sold, sorry) if you are desperate. As you can see from the pic below there is still a border of fabric on this piece. My client wants turned under edges on these. I have yet to do that but it's on the 'to do' list over the holidays. Also on the to do list is my latest piece which I don't want to show you yet. I am going to 'play' with it a little and hopefully come to a resolution that I can show you as soon as possible.
Sadly as I'm sure you have noticed I have had to turn on my comment moderation. Comments will no longer be published before I've seen them. This is because I have had so many annoying, infuriating things coming through recently. Blatant advertising, foreign language comments with no senders profile available and worst of all comments advertising a pornographic phoneline, yes a pornographic phoneline, I had to go and lie down in a darkened room! Infact I'm still traumatised.

I am signing off now until after christmas. I'm not sure how long for, could be back on 26th I don't know yet. Please don't abandon me though, I will still be reading e-mails and lurking around facebook and flickr. Have a magical christmas.......miss you already. x

Merry Christmas Karen - comment moderation? I had to do the same thing, for exactly the same reasons. Beautiful work, as always!

Hi Karen
Thanks for some wonderful blogs & pics on Flickr this yet.
I can only aspire to your quality of work, but maybe (with a lot of practice) I can keep trying.
Have a wonderful Christmas
