For centuries women have used cloth as a tool of comfort and as an expression of beauty within their homes. Creating cloth for warmth, cloth for shelter, our female predecessors embellished these linens with hand stitch using laborious and time consuming techniques thereby enhancing the functional beauty of objects which enveloped and protected their families. Inspired by these women I hope my creations pay tribute to and recognise the devotion expressed in cloth by our female ancestors .

Sunny Kent in July......

I will fill you in on my title further down, suffice to say it is very exciting!
For the moment here is the cushion I am making as a gift. We are still on muted, peaceful colours as I know these are the colours this person loves. This is the front, embroidery completed and damp stretched, it will be put together at the weekend.

It was so difficult to get good images of this piece, probably because it is so pale and here again is the obsessive folding image! Thanks so much to those of you who said that my work is never boring......do you still think so?????????? More seeding, more little wheel thingy's, I think this is a theme that is going to run and run, maybe I could write an essay '' A million ways with seed stitch!!''

Now for my other news...following my last post about wanting to do a selling fair I have taken up an offer from the lovely Jenny to have a table at her ''Makey Do'' in Kent in July. This is a real big deal for me, my first ever selling event of this kind, 350 miles away and nothing to sell....................yet! So yes, I need to make for this event. Goodness knows what visions will appear here between now and then but this calls for a production line. Wish me luck!!
I have put a link to this on the sidebar so please take a look and if you live around there please, please try and come along and say hello.
Have a great week!x

Dear Karen,
Thank you for sharing your work and the time that it takes you to this ......I collect old linens from Op Shops and starting to form plan of cutting them up and restitching them......
I dye my collection and experiement with lots of things textural but want to respect the origional hands that created these lovely functional cloths.
Love the calm expression of love and caring with your hands.

I cannot tell you how glad I am that you are coming to to the 'do'-mainly because it might make me look a bit of a groupey! I love the serenity of this latest work and am reminded of pebbles and limpits.

Full of exciting texture and the color pallet is so restful. Absolutely stunning. (And I just cannot get over how proficient you are!) I don't think you will have any trouble creating lots of wonderful textiles between now ands show time.)
