For centuries women have used cloth as a tool of comfort and as an expression of beauty within their homes. Creating cloth for warmth, cloth for shelter, our female predecessors embellished these linens with hand stitch using laborious and time consuming techniques thereby enhancing the functional beauty of objects which enveloped and protected their families. Inspired by these women I hope my creations pay tribute to and recognise the devotion expressed in cloth by our female ancestors .

My grandmother's tablecloth

It was great to spend time visiting all my favourite blogs last wednesday. It has made me determined to update my link list. Some of my favourites aren't even on there, I can't believe how long it took me to find where I had hidden them on my bookmark list. Hopefully the update will take place this weekend, there is some brilliant talent out there which needs to be shared.
This is how cushion 4 is looking now. More embellishment, damp stretched and ready for something else. You can see my tacking outlines here as I have things I still want to do with this piece.

I have a feeling this one is going to turn into more of a marathon than a sprint but when I have something in my head I just have to go with it.

Talking of having things in my head.....as I have been stitching this the words 'my grandmother's tablecloth' kept popping into my thoughts. It's not that either of my grandmother's were prolific embroiderers, they weren't, yet this work seems to fit with those words. It makes me want to create something, don't ask me what because I don't know, but I have a feeling my next piece will have a connection to my grandmother's tablecloth. That thought really excites me, ( I must need to get out more, being excited about goodness knows what!!)
It's the weekend, embroidery, embroidery, embroidery..............I can't wait!!
Have a good one!
