For centuries women have used cloth as a tool of comfort and as an expression of beauty within their homes. Creating cloth for warmth, cloth for shelter, our female predecessors embellished these linens with hand stitch using laborious and time consuming techniques thereby enhancing the functional beauty of objects which enveloped and protected their families. Inspired by these women I hope my creations pay tribute to and recognise the devotion expressed in cloth by our female ancestors .

The best laid plans and all that..

This weekend..............well this weekend was the weekend to sort out two bedrooms ready for builders. To throw away years of collected junk, to reduce my bedding pile to only the most usable, to move furniture, even throw some furniture away. It was the weekend to take exhausting trips to the council tip, the weekend for supreme sacrifice and organisation.
Instead this weekend became the weekend to take a trip into town, to buy a new soft, warm, cuddly cardigan , to buy metres and metres of silk, to buy buttons, to buy some VERY expensive bubble bath, to spend endless hours on the internet, to make coffee then make some more, to eat a full bag of cadbury's mini eggs, to have the most glorious relaxing bath with so many bubbles I was in danger of drowning and then to wrap up in my dressing gown, house to myself and tell you all how lazy I have been. The weekend isn't over but I get the feeling that tomorrow will follow a similar pattern. Who cares about organisation and builders, last minute is as good as well in advance and I feel great, so it's win win all the way!
No sketchbook pictures today sorry, my computer really isn't feeling well and I don't want to push my luck, new virus software is on it's way so fingers crossed for that. I will show you this though. I'm not going to say what it is or is going to be but I am sure you will figure it out anyway. It's part of the enormous amount of embroidery I need to get through to update the shop.

The fabric in the image below is from a piece I bought on the internet. I absolutely adore this fabric. There was only about 1 metre available because it's vintage and my piece is getting mighty small, I will miss it. I do have a patchwork cushion that I used it in but if anyone knows where I can get some more I will be eternally grateful. I think it's called 'seed packet' or something similar.

Remember I said I wanted to change the image on my blog and shop header? Well I tried, I played and changed and changed again but I couldn't do it, it didn't look right. I can see it in my head, can't translate it into reality though, maybe I'm not ready to break away from that particular image. Boy am I a loser!
Have a great weekend, relax, have a bubble bath, I can recommend it!

I know which version of the weekend I prefer. Sounds like the original idea went the same way as my housework! Enjoy it

Of course the other thing to remember about builders, and other tradesman, is that they often don't quite make it around when they say they will (I'm sure they have the best intentions...) so being prepared too far in advance can be not only frustrating but also futile. So much better having a satisfying weekend with the things you most enjoy! Well done.

Great weekend!
I have lots of things to do around the house... but haven't yet made my mind to begin.
Your embroidery is pretty as usual and love the color you add (I'm always around even if i don't write)
Have a great week too!
