For centuries women have used cloth as a tool of comfort and as an expression of beauty within their homes. Creating cloth for warmth, cloth for shelter, our female predecessors embellished these linens with hand stitch using laborious and time consuming techniques thereby enhancing the functional beauty of objects which enveloped and protected their families. Inspired by these women I hope my creations pay tribute to and recognise the devotion expressed in cloth by our female ancestors .

Progression

The doodles have moved on a little bit. There are a lot of pictures here of a very small piece of embroidery. I have really enjoyed working this piece combining the different techniques, stitches and colours, it has given me an idea for 'swaddling band two' which I hope to start tonight. I still haven't managed to damp stretch the lining for 'swaddling band one'. I have found that when you damp stretch silk it is much better to do it in daylight, the sheen on the fabric bounces back at you in artificial light which makes it really hard to check the stretch. Hopefully I will get it done at the weekend and if I am really lucky it will all be put together before christmas.

My weekend away was just lovely, very relaxing and just what the doctor ordered, only four days to go until I break up for two weeks holiday, I am so excited!!!!!!!!! It will probably take two weeks to catch up on all the housework but who cares....it's christmas!
I just have to share this link with you again. I put it on here last year but it is so beautiful it deserves to be seen again, thanks Gunnel!

Of all your gorgeous work, this may be my favorite. I really like how each flower petal offers something new and special, and your stitching is perfection!

i really, really, really love the actual piece. much more than the drawing. sometimes it's hard to tell which will be better, the idea or the actual end result. in this case, the end result wins! i still, of course, remain a huge fan of your previous less embroidery work, but i like this too.

i cannot wait until i get a job so i can purchase items from your etsy shop. at the moment, i have just about enough for a bus ride, a dinner meal, and maybe some candy. :)

The colours work so beautifully and make all the petals individual yet connected. As always gorgeous.

It's interesting to see how it alters froms doodle to actual piece.
