For centuries women have used cloth as a tool of comfort and as an expression of beauty within their homes. Creating cloth for warmth, cloth for shelter, our female predecessors embellished these linens with hand stitch using laborious and time consuming techniques thereby enhancing the functional beauty of objects which enveloped and protected their families. Inspired by these women I hope my creations pay tribute to and recognise the devotion expressed in cloth by our female ancestors .

Progress

My little patchwork squares appear to have spurred me on ( after a fashion!) in my quest for improved artwork. These are the very begining of a series of small pieces which will fit in a frame or mount onto a canvas or similar. They are by no means absolutely finished in my head yet, so it may be a little while before they sit complete in the shop but I really do feel like I am making progress.
I am not sure about the collage transfer section here. The pale sheen that has appeared since I applied the glue is slightly off putting against the pure white. I don't understand why it has done that. I use a very pure, archival quality water based adhesive in any collage I do. The only thing I can think is that perhaps there is some kind of finish on the transfer itself which reacted, or maybe my brush was not completely clean. It is back to the thinking cap with this one.

As for pin pricking, I had forgotten how lovely it is just to sit with a pin and some good quality watercolour paper and prick away to your hearts content. In one of my degree modules c. 2005 I created a whole series of works using this method and received a very high mark......why haven't I been back to it before now? Good question and the answer is I simply don't know.
As for life in general, work is great, I really enjoy it but I am so tired all the time. I should go to bed earlier but I fight that as I have so much else I want to do. Now I think I am paying the price because today I have the most awful sore throat and headache. Lets hope it passes soon and I can really get a good run at my new work.
Don't forget the give away two posts down, draw day is tuesday, probably late at night, good luck and thanks to everyone who has left such amazing comments so far.
Have an amazing weekend!x
