For centuries women have used cloth as a tool of comfort and as an expression of beauty within their homes. Creating cloth for warmth, cloth for shelter, our female predecessors embellished these linens with hand stitch using laborious and time consuming techniques thereby enhancing the functional beauty of objects which enveloped and protected their families. Inspired by these women I hope my creations pay tribute to and recognise the devotion expressed in cloth by our female ancestors .

We have handbag lift off!!

Yipee....I got there in the end! After lots of angst re those other samples, playing with gifts of fabric and generally having many creative hiccups...I eventually have a handbag! This all came together late last night and I have to say I am ever so slightly pleased about it. You will notice that I haven't used any silk here either, just cotton fabric. It feels good that I can create with a different kind of cloth, I have worked only in silk for so long I had began to think there was nothing else.

This bag is more 'me' than the first tentative steps I took recently which ended up causing me so much grief. Maybe this could be the start of a beautiful relationship with cotton, we shall have to see. I have put this in the shop already, anxious to see how it will be received because making bags is definitely something I want to do more of.

The crazy patchwork cloth is growing steadily. I haven't posted any pics today because I don't want to bore you with similar images all the time. My plan is to show you again when it is nearly finished and then again when it is complete.
I posted up a treasury on etsy on friday, I would be so pleased if you could check it out, get me loads of views and maybe leave a comment on it. Take a look here, it runs out on monday so feedback would be nice.
Now I want to post a huge thankyou, which may be slightly belated, in which case I am really sorry, I don't know where my head has been these past few days. My good friend Kaija has been a featured seller on etsy since friday. You really must have a look at her interview it is fascinating. The thanks are for the fact that she mentioned me in her list of favourite websites and because of that my traffic has been huge! To everyone who came here, via that link, please come back soon, it's been amazing.

Knew you had a bag in you! It looks lovely. I'm sure you will have as good a relationship with cotton as you do with silk

I agree Karen - I particularly like the contrast with the lining.

The handbag is beautiful. I love the lining, the lace attachments for the handles, and the way the lace drapes from the bottom of the handbag. This is lovely! :-)Gayle
