For centuries women have used cloth as a tool of comfort and as an expression of beauty within their homes. Creating cloth for warmth, cloth for shelter, our female predecessors embellished these linens with hand stitch using laborious and time consuming techniques thereby enhancing the functional beauty of objects which enveloped and protected their families. Inspired by these women I hope my creations pay tribute to and recognise the devotion expressed in cloth by our female ancestors .

Edge Obsession

Allthough we are a long way from finished with the crazy patchwork I am already thinking about the edge. You know me, quite obsessed with my edges. The text I have embroidered onto this cotton tape is the same as the text I have cut up for the main piece.

I hung it over these cloths I had washed and ironed for safe keeping, I think it looks great just like this, but then if I left it here I wouldn't have an edge would I!

So my plan is to cut this up and use it in a rouleau loop kind of way. Laid out like this they remind me of the name tags I had on my clothes for school.

I have a lot more embroidery to do yet so It's a short one today. My neeedle and thread are calling!

The blue text looks so great on the tape. I'll have to wait and see what will happen next!

How do you do all of this, in such a seemingly short amount of time!?! I am starting to feel like a real slug over here!
(The tape looks great, by the way!!)

This is such a pure and beautiful way to embellish with the written word. I love this idea.
