For centuries women have used cloth as a tool of comfort and as an expression of beauty within their homes. Creating cloth for warmth, cloth for shelter, our female predecessors embellished these linens with hand stitch using laborious and time consuming techniques thereby enhancing the functional beauty of objects which enveloped and protected their families. Inspired by these women I hope my creations pay tribute to and recognise the devotion expressed in cloth by our female ancestors .

I don't feel as if I have made much progress since wednesday. I have sent out some orders.....yes Victoria, it's on it's way!

I have pintucked a huge piece of silk to use as an element of my new cloth,

the applique piece is progressing, not very quickly, it is an enormously time consuming process, one of the reasons it is a favourite technique.

and I have begun to embroider onto the pintucked cloth. it is barely visible here, definitely more noticeable in 'real life'.

Now I am becoming impatient. I was thinking about the most exciting part of making a cloth and decided it's the finishing, the edges, I love edges.

I enjoy watching the way your pieces come together, very texturally pleasing, if you know what I mean

I am on the edge of my seat with anticipation!

(And I really like that "knotted rope" in the last photo!)

I'm intrigued by the "knotted rope" too. Is it a bias type strip you have formed into knots?
