For centuries women have used cloth as a tool of comfort and as an expression of beauty within their homes. Creating cloth for warmth, cloth for shelter, our female predecessors embellished these linens with hand stitch using laborious and time consuming techniques thereby enhancing the functional beauty of objects which enveloped and protected their families. Inspired by these women I hope my creations pay tribute to and recognise the devotion expressed in cloth by our female ancestors .

First of all, I must apologise. Three days since my last post....I'm becoming a dreadfully neglectful blogger! I don't know where this week has gone, it's scary! I haven't been lazy though, feet up watching daytime t.v. or anything, honest.
I have been doing a little bit of this,

creating text and then chopping it up.
And I have finished my first piece of cutwork, damp stretched it and here it is.

It looks so much better after damp stretching and I really do wish you could touch it. It has a gorgeous texture and weight that must come from the lace I have used.

And, here it is added to the main piece, which although not obvious here, is still extremely small. We have a long way to go yet!

I have the rest of this weekend all to myself, I am home alone. There will be lots of embroidery going on and absolutely no cooking, cleaning, washing, ironing or anything else which doesn't involve scissors, needle and thread! I am so excited!!

I am sure you'll have a fantastic weekend. When you do the text, do you stitch anything specific, or is it random letters?

It's amazing how the time whizzes past!

Yet more beautiful work. I think it's starting to rub off on my work - bought a canvas the other day and am toying with the idea of putting holes in it and replacing them with material.

Yikes! Another talented craft worker! I love the way you've done that cutwork too. Quite beautiful.

Just think, if Jennyflower hadn't tagged you... and then mentioned it - I'd have never even known you were there!

Thank you Jenny and thank you Karen. Enjoy the embroidery weekend!... or er, as it's now Monday... I hope you enjoyed it!
