For centuries women have used cloth as a tool of comfort and as an expression of beauty within their homes. Creating cloth for warmth, cloth for shelter, our female predecessors embellished these linens with hand stitch using laborious and time consuming techniques thereby enhancing the functional beauty of objects which enveloped and protected their families. Inspired by these women I hope my creations pay tribute to and recognise the devotion expressed in cloth by our female ancestors .

Pretty Snow!

We woke up to snow this morning. Not as much as had been forecast but it looks so pretty and makes a change from the grey dreary days we have had a lot of recently. I took these pics in my garden, not a very big garden, in fact it is more like a glorified outdoor cupboard, but for now it is my little piece of snow covered prettiness! Having said that, because of the snow I probably won't leave the house now, I am such a wuss, scared of slipping, scared of driving, so I will enjoy it through the window.

I am making such good progress with my latest cloth and I really hope to have some photos of it after the weekend. My mind is very much focused on getting this one finished and then making for my etsy relaunch but in the back of my mind I know I need to make another cloth because of other exhibitions coming up. Because of that I have had my samples out again, looking for surface pattern ideas, composition ideas etc. These samples were created a LONG time ago and I know for certain that I will not have black in anything I do from now on, but I especially like the way the embroidery into the lace integrates it into the whole piece and am thinking about how to progress that idea.

I am trying very hard to be ready with a date for the etsy opening by the end of next week, and will definitely keep you posted on that. Have a fantastic weekend! xx
