For centuries women have used cloth as a tool of comfort and as an expression of beauty within their homes. Creating cloth for warmth, cloth for shelter, our female predecessors embellished these linens with hand stitch using laborious and time consuming techniques thereby enhancing the functional beauty of objects which enveloped and protected their families. Inspired by these women I hope my creations pay tribute to and recognise the devotion expressed in cloth by our female ancestors .

CELEBRATIONS!!!!

Wow!!! I got a letter today, following my interview last week I HAVE BEEN ACCEPTED AS AN EXHIBITING MEMBER OF THE LANCASHIRE GUILD OF CRAFTSMEN!!! This is so exciting for me because I am desperate for more outlets for my work and this should lead to lots of exhibition opportunities, so millions of thanks for all your positive thoughts, I am one happy embroiderer.
Because of this news I have tonight started a new wrapping cloth. Those of you who have followed my blog since the beginning will know what they are, but the history of my cloths is given in great detail here. As always I start with the text! I am going to embroider a quote concerning motherhood onto a piece of silk, then when it has been damp stretched I am going to cut it up and patchwork it back together so you can't read it, also explained here. Then I will add more hand embroidery with pattern taken from vintage cloth before I decide where to place my pockets, pleats or folds. I really hope that this cloth will be special and I will post images as I progress. I warn you though, it's a time consuming process.
