For centuries women have used cloth as a tool of comfort and as an expression of beauty within their homes. Creating cloth for warmth, cloth for shelter, our female predecessors embellished these linens with hand stitch using laborious and time consuming techniques thereby enhancing the functional beauty of objects which enveloped and protected their families. Inspired by these women I hope my creations pay tribute to and recognise the devotion expressed in cloth by our female ancestors .

All works c. Kaija

I am really excited because a blog owner whose work I really admire has given me permission to share her work with you. Kaija is from finland and creates the most beautiful books. She also creates these fantastic magnets from vintage botanical illustrations and all this gorgeous stuff is available for sale at her etsy shop. Definitely objects I have added to things I covet!

Look at what I have been doing today!! All these presents are to be hand delivered to family and friends 'up north' tommorrow. It will be a good job done and I can concentrate more on getting this end ready for christmas. I also have a VERY important interview on thursday with the Guild of Lancashire Craftsmen, so they can decide wether they want me or not!! Scary scary!! It would be so good to be a member of this well respected group and it can only be good for my profile, please have positive thoughts for me. So after my trip up and down the M6 I will have some preperation to do, decide on which work I am taking for them to disect, perhaps prepare a few notes. As soon as I know how I got on I will let you know.

(part of me now thinks I shouldn't have said anything because if I don't get accepted how stupid will I feel!!!) Oh well....que sera sera...
